Introduction to Python programming and machine learning. Topics include the basics of Python programming and machine learning algorithms, such as linear and logistic regression, decision trees and selected advanced topics. Case studies and code demonstrations will showcase their applications in environmental systems analysis and modeling.

Introduction to hydrologic science. Topics include precipitation, evapotranspiration, infiltration, streamflow, runoff, flow routing, design storm, large-scale hydrologic modeling, and hydrologic applications of geographic information systems. This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address complex water-related challenges, promoting sustainable water management practices in a changing environment.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are essential tools for answering geospatial questions — but effective use requires understanding the science behind the software. This course combines the fundamental concepts and principles of geographic information science with hands-on training in ArcGIS Pro. Working with real-world data such as census records, land use/land cover, digital elevation models, and imagery, you will learn to process geographic data and apply geospatial analysis to problems in your own areas of interest.

This course reviews the fundamentals and practices of water resources engineering within the Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering curriculum at the University of Delaware. Students will explore theoretical and applied aspects of hydrologic and hydraulic processes in the watershed (surface water hydrology), aquifer (groundwater hydrology), and in open channel and closed conduit (pipe). The water resources curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in water supply, wastewater, floodplain, stormwater, and groundwater management. 3 cr.
